Equitable Group Inc. files preliminary prospectus for initial public offering

TORONTO, Feb. 5 /CNW/ - Equitable Group Inc. announced today that it has filed a preliminary prospectus with Canadian regulatory authorities in connection with an initial public offering and secondary offering of Common Shares. The offering will be sold through a syndicate of underwriters led by BMO Nesbitt Burns Inc.

Through its operating subsidiary, The Equitable Trust Company ("Equitable Trust"), Equitable Group Inc. provides residential first mortgage financing to purchasers of properties located primarily in the GTA. Equitable Trust focuses on multi-residential and single family dwelling mortgage financing and provides mortgage financing for commercial properties on a very selective basis. In the single family dwelling segment, Equitable Trust is an alternative lender to borrowers who are unable to satisfy the strict underwriting criteria of conventional mortgage lenders.
